The
following requirements are common to all operating
systems supported by Release 4.0. System unit
and graphic adapter requirements are platform specific
and are detailed in the topics that follow.
Required
Components and Features
Disk Drive: An
internal or external disk drive is required
to store program executables, program data,
the user environment and to provide paging
space. The minimum recommended size is 2 GB.
Memory: 256 MB of RAM is the
minimum recommended amount of memory for all
applications. Requirements may be greater
when large amounts of data are used.
External Drives: A CD-ROM drive
is required for program installation and for
access to the online documentation, which
can optionally be downloaded to disk.
Display: A graphic color display
compatible with the selected platform-specific
graphic adapter. The minimum recommended size
for usability reasons is 17 inches. Minimum
resolution for Windows workstations is 800x600
and 1280x1024 for UNIX workstations.
Keyboard: A specific keyboard
compatible with the selected installation
locale may be required for national language
support.
Pointing Device: Three-button
mouse. On Windows workstations, a two-button
mouse may alternatively be used (the third
button is emulated with a keyboard sequence).
The three-button mouse is recommended for
usability reasons. IntelliMouse (two buttons
plus wheel) is an alternative to the three-button
mouse on Windows workstations.
The
robustness of the overall solution is dependant
on the robustness of the operating system and
the hardware environment used. Windows and UNIX
hardware configurations certified By Dassault
Systemes for running CATIA products are published
at :
Although
CATIA Version 5 products might run on configurations
or with graphic adapters other than those specified
for each of the platforms below, incidents specific
to such configurations or adapters will not be
accepted for support.

local transformations (panning, zooming, rotating
model) will depend on the selected graphic adapter.
The graphic adapter should have the following
capabilities :
16 bit, high color, double
buffered visual.
16 bit Z-buffer (when hardware
accelerated).
Stencil buffer (1 bit).
Minimum supported resolution

model) will depend on the selected graphic adapter.
The graphic adapter should have the following
capabilities :
24 bit,
true color, double buffered visual.
24 bit
Z-buffer.

Refer
to the Program Directory or contact your IBM Support
Center for appropriate corrective service to apply
to the software described in the topics that follow.
Software Requirements in a Windows NT or Windows 2000
Environment
The
following components at the indicated level are required
:
Microsoft Windows NT Workstation Version 4.0
at Service Pack level 4, or Service Pack 5, or Windows
2000 Professional, with the following components :
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and
Windows 2000 deliver an implementation of the OpenGL
libraries. These libraries may be updated
depending on the selected graphics adapter when
installing the graphics adapter and associated drivers.
Dassault Systemes will provide recommendations related
to driver levels based on certified configurations
through the CATIA V5 website at URL :
A localized version of the operating
system may be required when the selected installation
locale differs from Latin.
Software Requirements in a Windows 95 or Windows 98 Environment
IMPORTANT
: The Windows 95 and Windows 98
environments apply only to CATIA Version 5 Platform
